Guatemala Itinerary With Beach — 7, 10 & 14 Day Plans
Most Guatemala itineraries focus on Antigua and Lake Atitlán — and they're incredible. But adding 2–3 days at El Paredón beach turns a good trip into a great one. Here are three proven itinerary structures that work.
7-Day Guatemala Itinerary With Beach
This is the classic first-timer route — tight but covers the highlights.
- Days 1–2: Antigua Guatemala — Acclimatize, explore the colonial city, visit Cerro de la Cruz. Day trip to Volcán Pacaya if time allows.
- Days 3–4: Lake Atitlán — Take a shuttle to Panajachel, cross to San Marcos or San Juan for hiking, kayaking and volcano views.
- Days 5–6: El Paredón Beach — Transfer from Atitlán via Escuintla (3 hours). Surf lessons, mangrove tour, sunset, relax. How to get there →
- Day 7: Return — Transfer back to Guatemala City for your flight, or stay an extra night in Antigua.
10-Day Guatemala Itinerary With Beach
More breathing room, more depth in each place.
- Days 1–3: Antigua — Spanish classes, food scene, day hike to Volcán Acatenango (overnight if adventurous).
- Days 4–6: Lake Atitlán — Explore 3 different villages by boat, hike the Indian Nose, sunrise yoga in San Marcos.
- Days 7–9: El Paredón Beach — 3 full beach days. Surf lesson on day 1, mangrove tour on day 2, turtle release at night (July–Feb), horseback sunset on day 3. All El Paredón activities →
- Day 10: Monterrico or return — If you have flexibility, take the lagoon boat to Monterrico for a half-day before heading to the airport. El Paredón vs Monterrico →
14-Day Guatemala Itinerary With Beach
For travelers who want to go deeper and slower.
- Days 1–4: Antigua + surroundings — Volcán Acatenango hike, chocolate tour, Chichicastenango market day trip.
- Days 5–7: Lake Atitlán — Based in San Marcos or Santa Cruz, day trips by lancha to different villages.
- Days 8–9: Transit + explore — Huehuetenango or Quetzaltenango (Xela) en route south, or direct route via Guatemala City.
- Days 10–12: El Paredón — Full immersion. Take a multi-day surf camp, do all the activities, explore by kayak. Surf packages →
- Days 13–14: Monterrico or Sipacate — Lagoon boat south to Monterrico for contrast, or go north to Sipacate for empty waves.

hoteles en playa el paredón guatemala
This little beach town is delightfully underdeveloped, authentic, and relaxed. This is not a resort town by any means. Lots of small hotels and hostels. The temperature stays hot at night, and you might have difficulty sleeping. The beach was mostly clean, and the waves were good.
Absolutely love this beach and community. Felt safe everywhere we went and locals were really nice and welcoming.
