Free Access to Guatemala's Public Beaches

In Guatemala, most Pacific beaches are publicly accessible and free of charge. This means you can arrive, set up on the sand, and enjoy the sea without paying an entrance fee. However, parking and complementary services (umbrellas, chairs, access to restaurants) often do have a cost.

El Paredón Public Beach is one of the most well-known and best-organized access points on the Pacific coast. It offers basic services, local restaurants, and the typical relaxed atmosphere of the destination. Other popular public beaches in Guatemala include the beaches of Champerico (the most frequented by Guatemalans), Monterrico, and Iztapa.

To reach Guatemala's public beaches, the most economical way is to take public transportation from the capital's bus terminal to Escuintla and then connect with local pickups or minibuses to the coast. The journey to El Paredón from the capital city takes approximately 2.5 hours and costs less than Q50 by public transport.

This little beach town is delightfully underdeveloped, authentic, and relaxed. This is not a resort town by any means. Lots of small hotels and hostels. The temperature stays hot at night, and you might have difficulty sleeping. The beach was mostly clean, and the waves were good.
