Where the Name Comes From

"Boogie Board" is literally a registered trademark — Tom Morey created it in 1971, and it became so popular the name went generic, the same way "Band-Aid" or "Kleenex" did. "Bodyboard" is the technical, generic term for the same category of short board you ride lying down or on your knees. So every Boogie Board is a bodyboard, but not every bodyboard is a name-brand Boogie Board.

Is There a Construction Difference?

Between modern brands, barely any. What does vary is core quality (basic EPS vs. high-density EPS), the bottom (smooth HDPE vs. textured), and reinforcement (internal stringers on pricier boards).
