What to Do in El Paredón in One Day — Complete Itinerary
One day in El Paredón is enough for a complete experience. Here's an optimized itinerary to make the most of your hours, with real prices and practical recommendations.
Itinerary: The Perfect Day in El Paredón
6:00 am — Sunrise on the Beach
El Paredón awakens with golden light over the black sand. If you arrive by overnight transport or wake up early, this is the best time to walk along the beach in solitude. Fishermen are heading out in their boats — a scene worth seeing. Perfect temperature, calm sea at the entrance.
7:00–9:00 am — Surf Lesson
The early morning hours have the best conditions: offshore wind (which shapes the waves well) and fewer people in the water. Surf schools start classes from 7 am. A 1.5–2 hour session with a certified instructor and board included costs Q120–160. Perfect for beginners — most manage to stand up in the first session.
9:30 am — Breakfast in the Village
After surfing, hunger is guaranteed. Several eateries and cafes open early. Order eggs with beans, corn tortillas, and "café de olla" — the standard Guatemalan breakfast, nutritious and for Q40–60.
11:00 am–2:00 pm — Mangrove Tour
The 3-hour boat tour through the mangrove channels is the second star activity. Departures are available all morning. You'll see herons, kingfishers, iguanas, and almost certainly a crocodile. Bring sunscreen, repellent, and a bottle of water. Price: Q100–150 per person.

2:00–3:00 pm — Lunch
El Paredón's best restaurants serve fresh seafood: ceviche, garlic shrimp, snapper fillet. The beachfront establishments have the most peaceful atmosphere at this time. Budget: Q80–150 per person. Restaurants in El Paredón →
3:00–5:00 pm — Beach, Kayak or Rest
The hot afternoon invites you to a hammock. If you have energy, rent a kayak and explore the lagoon side — calmer waters, birds, and mangrove channels. Rental: Q50–75/hour. Kayak rental →
5:00–6:30 pm — Sunset
The sunset in El Paredón is spectacular over the black sand. El Bora and the boardwalk bars are the meeting point. A local beer or a cold coconut in hand, facing the ocean — the highlight of the day. Bora Bar & Restaurant →
7:00–8:00 pm (optional) — Turtle Tour
If you're in season (July–February), the night turtle release tour is a unique experience you can't miss. Tours usually depart at 9 pm. Book at your hostel or at Poza del Nance. Turtle Tour →
If You Stay More Than One Day
With two days you can add an excursion to Sipacate (surfing without crowds), a horseback ride at sunset, and a walk to Buena Vista Beach. With three days you'll have time to truly relax.
