Routes and Transportation to Get to Escuintla from the Capital

Getting to Escuintla from Guatemala City is quick and easy. The department of Escuintla is only 58 km from the Guatemalan capital, and the journey on the CA-9 highway takes approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on traffic.

To get to Escuintla by car, take Aguilar Batres Avenue southbound, which connects directly to the highway to the Pacific. This four-lane highway is well-maintained. By public transport, buses depart frequently from the Zone 4 terminal in the capital, and the fare is around Q10-Q15. There are also more comfortable Pullman services from the city center.

Escuintla serves as a connection point to reach the Pacific beaches. From there, the route continues towards La Gomera to access El Paredón and Sipacate (about 60 additional km), or towards Masagua and Iztapa. If your final destination is the beach, Escuintla is the mandatory technical stop on the journey.

This little beach town is delightfully underdeveloped, authentic, and relaxed. This is not a resort town by any means. Lots of small hotels and hostels. The temperature stays hot at night, and you might have difficulty sleeping. The beach was mostly clean, and the waves were good.
