Everything you need to know to visit Aldea El Chapetón in Guatemala

El Chapetón Village and its famous El Chapetón Beach are located in the municipality of La Gomera, Escuintla, on Guatemala's Pacific coast. This dark sand beach is one of the quietest in the region, ideal for those looking to escape the noise and reconnect with nature. Unlike more commercial destinations like Monterrico or Sipacate, El Chapetón maintains a 100% local atmosphere: there are no large hotels or resorts, just open beach, artisanal fishing, and the hospitality of its residents. Access is by road from Escuintla or Masagua, passing through the sugarcane and African palm landscapes typical of Guatemala's southern coast. The waves are suitable for intermediate and advanced surfing, although there are also calmer areas for swimming and relaxing. The best time to visit is between November and April.

This little beach town is delightfully underdeveloped, authentic, and relaxed. This is not a resort town by any means. Lots of small hotels and hostels. The temperature stays hot at night, and you might have difficulty sleeping. The beach was mostly clean, and the waves were good.
